Forming Sentences

Basic Sentence Structure

To form basic sentences, start with a noun in the nominative case as the subject, add a verb in the correct form, and include an object in the accusative case if needed.

Examples with familiar vocabulary:

Femina aquam amat. — The woman loves water.

Nauta insulam spectat. — The sailor watches the island.

Agricola pecuniam parat. — The farmer prepares money.

Puella rosam portat. — The girl carries the rose.

Using Infinitives with volo and nolo

Volo (I want) and nolo (I do not want) are often followed by infinitives to show what the subject wants or does not want to do. For example:

Volo amare — I want to love.

Puella nolo clamare — The girl does not want to shout.

Familia volo habitare — The family wants to live.
